The Ministers responsible for Youth from all the 27 EU Member States met last Thursday, 16 May, in the Council of Education, Youth, Culture and Sport, in Brussels, and adopted two important Council documents in the youth field:
The Council adopted Conclusions on the contribution of quality youth work to the development, well-being and social inclusion of young people, following up on the Joint Conclusions adopted at the EU Youth Conference in Dublin.
The Council also adopted Conclusions on maximising the potential of youth policy in addressing the goals of Europe 2020 Strategy, calling in particular for measures to enhance cross-sectoral and inter-institutional cooperation in youth and youth-related policy areas and highlighting the importance of increased synergies between instruments and initiatives already in place or recently adopted in the youth field, in particular the Youth Employment Initiative.
As it is customary, the Irish Presidency organised an Informal Forum on the Structured Dialogue alongside the Council of Youth Ministers meeting. The Youth Ministers and youth representatives from Ireland, Lithuania, Greece and Cyprus as well as the European Youth Forum and Commissioner Vassiliou discussed on how to support and enhance the follow-up of the Joint Conclusions from the EU Youth Conference (11-13 March, Dublin) and shared their expectations of the review of the Structured Dialogue process.
